, a pro gadhafi facebook page mentioned his running habits and a picture of ambassador stevens. the posting directed a threat against stevens. issa says stevens stopped his morning runs for about a week and then resumed them. in june, an ied was successfully placed at the u.s. consulate in benghazi, blowing a hole in the security perimeter gate, big enough for 40 people to go through. and in the weeks before the september 11th attacks, unarmed libyan guards working at the consulate were warned by family members to quit their jobs, because of, quote, rumors in the community of an impending attack. those are just a few of the 13 things that darrell issa listed. and he also included this major allegation. according to issa, multiple u.s. federal government officials have confirmed to the committee that prior to the september 11th attacks, the u.s. mission in libya made repeated requests for increased security in benghazi. the mission in libya, however, was denied these resources by officials in washington. the state department has responded to darrell issa's letter. here is spokes

to be in that situation to write this particular book because that was the situation that the character steven was in. he was in a place he didn't want to be. he was far from people he wanted to be close to. he was not in his territory. that's how i felt writing by myself, far from home, not wanting to do it everyday from the time i got up to the time i got drunk but i did. and the second half was written all in a month. and it worked for this book. i can't say it might work for every other book it probably wouldn't work for any other book. i started this book in third person and thought for sure as a young man's voice in first person. i went in third person and i was 5 pages in and said, this doesn't sound right or read right, something's wrong. i went back because i learned from my first book, you have to think about voice and where it's coming from. i went back and put it in first person and realized it started to work. what i did was put it in the journal entries and it became what i should have known from the beginning because a began my colleges career as a film major wanting to make films not know

's white house correspondent steven dennis. what is your opinion? >> well, i think it's definitely something that gives mitt romney's campaign new life. coming into this debate, his campaign was really reeling from several disastrous weeks. this 47% video. if you look at the polling, people thought that -- especially in the swing states like ohio that he was out for the rich, that he was -- these attacks that the president has been putting on the r, nonstop in these swing states that he's going to raise taxes onthe middle class and give to the wealthy had been hitting and have been hurting him badly combined with that video. so he came out punching and he came out trying to puncture that caricature, running to the middle on a lot of issues and on taxes really trying to hammer home this idea that he's not going to cut taxes for the rich, that he's going to cut taxes for the middle class, and the problem for him still that he hasn't yet shown how he can pay for it. the president tried to sort of puncture that a little bit, but i think the president just appeared tired and looked down

in libya. wood says he met daily with u.s. ambassador christopher stevens and security was a constant challenge. there were 13 threats or attacks on western diplomats and officials in libya in the six months leading up to the september 11 terrorist assault where ambassador stevens and three of his colleagues were killed. wood tells cbs news and congressional investigators that u.s. diplomatic personnel in libya repeatedly requested that security details be extended but the state department in washington, d.c.-- which he calls "state main" denied those requests. >> reporter: a senior state department official today told cbs news there was constant conversation about security but they say the nature of the attack was so lethal and overwhelming that a diplomatic post would not be able to repel it. sources say a total of three mobile security deployment teams left libya between february and august. in addition to the special forces team. that's 34 highly trainedded security personnel moved out in a six-month period. one state department source told cbs news the teams weren't pulled, that

stevens and three others. how well did you know ambassador stevens? >> very well. i got to know him very well. we lived and worked on the a residence compound, ate breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner with him, when he wasn't at diplomatic functions. >> reporter: woods says ambassador stevens, based in tripoli, benghazi, one of the first to declare its free from gadhafi's rule. it was still a dangerous place. >> there was an al qaeda demonstration in benghazi in june. a parade down the street. they raised their flag on one of the county buildings there. >> isn't that sort of a red flag for the security situation, that you have al qaeda supporters rallying in the the streets of benghazi in june of 2012? >> yes. that was another indicator to watch, to be aware of, and to try to compensate for it. >> reporter: woods says ambassador stevens and his staff repeatedly asked state department headquarters for more security but instead got less. and when stevens visited benghazi on september 11th, woods' group and three elite state department security teams had all been sent home. >> reporter: so
